Becoming a substitute teacher in Idaho is an effective way to enter the field of
education and begin to gain valuable classroom experience. This is particularly
relevant for prospective teachers considering an Idaho teaching career, or working
towards their Idaho teaching credential.
While Idaho does not have a statewide degree or credential requirement for substitute
teachers, requirements vary between school districts. Across school districts, preference
is given to substitute teachers who have obtained at least a bachelor’s degree,
with an Idaho teaching credential being most desirable.
