In order to start a career as a classroom teacher in Kentucky, after high school
graduation it is important to enroll into an accredited college to start earning
your 4-year BA degree.
How to become a classroom teacher in Kentucky:
- Kentucky requires all classroom teachers to acquire their 4-year BA degree.
- After earning a BA degree, approved teacher preparation courses must be taken to
be ready for classroom teaching.
- Teachers in Kentucky are required to pass the
Principles of Learning
and Teaching for their appropriate age group, and to pass a
Praxis 2 examination showing skills for your desired subject area of
teaching.
- The first five-year teaching license in Kentucky will be renewed for
an additional five years if ongoing education requirements are met, and if you have
taught for a solid three years of classroom teaching during this time. A superintendants
signature must be attached to the renewal application to verify your teaching times.
-
If a solid three years of classroom teaching cannot be shown on the first five-year
renewal of the teaching license, additional college courses must be taken instead
of the classroom teaching time.
- Include a $50 processing fee in the form of
money-order or certified check payable to the "Kentucky State Treasurer"
