Gerontological NP

Registered nurses who enjoy working with older patients and providing the specialized care and services needed to improve the health and quality of life of our aging population can advance their career and increase their earning potential through completing a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner (GNP) graduate degree program.

Becoming a gerontological NP is a rewarding career that includes diagnosing and treating patients, managing patient care, and providing direct patient care and services to older patients. Gerontological NPs obtain a thorough understanding of the chronic, complex and acute illnesses and ailments that affect the older population and learn the skills necessary to successfully treat older patients in a variety of hospital, clinic, nursing home or assisted living settings.

Gerontological nurse practitioners must complete a master-level degree program and pass the national credentialing examination administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center to receive the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner – Board Certified (GNP-BC) credential.
