How to become a teacher in Mississippi:
- Mississippi requires all new teachers to have their BA degree finished from a four-year
accredited college or university.
- To be granted a full five-year teacher license, it is necessary to have your BA
degree, and pass the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education requirements
for all who want to be teachers in a Mississippi classroom.
- For those who have a completed BA degree, but do not have their teacher preparation
classes done, Mississippi will issue a one-year license that allows you to teach
while completing specific requirements placed upon your contract towards having
your teacher preparation classes done.
- New teachers in Mississippi will need to show passing scores on
Praxis skills evaluation tests.
