New Mexico Education and Teaching Overview

Teaching in New Mexico is a pleasant experience today with elementary classroom sizes normally under 15 students, middle school classroom size under 20 students in most areas, and high school class sizes normally under 25 students in most areas. The exception to this rule is in the Albuquerque district that deals with larger class sizes due in part to the teacher shortages that many areas of the country are experiencing right now.

New Mexico Teacher Requirements

New Mexico high schools graduate about 67.3% of their students, with this number rising this year because of the economy situation. When it is not easy for a high school dropout to find a job, the dropout rates decrease as more young adults choose to stay in school for the diploma that is necessary to find employment with.

People who are teaching in New Mexico high schools right now are experiencing a renewed student interest in studying and college plans based upon the constant media stories about our economy. New Mexico students are learning through the media reports that the only way to survive in America today is through jobs that require education.

New Mexico Teacher Requirements

New Mexico has a very cheery future in the works for those choosing to enter classroom teaching within the state. Recently, the United States president has been announcing desires to revamp public education in America so that our citizens can have the training necessary to compete in the new global marketplace. For those teaching in New Mexico, this means that better pay, classroom funding, and benefits are on the horizon.

During the ‘No Child Left Behind’ era in public schools, New Mexico teachers often found themselves devoting time and supply money into this system of mandates that simply did not work for all members of the classroom. When new plans are put into place, it will be understood that this set of mandates must be replaced, along with antiquated classroom time-schedules to allow for new growth in education.

In the immediate future, those teaching in New Mexico can still enter the field with a BA degree and a heart-felt desire to help children to prosper in life. Needs over the next few years in New Mexico education include people trained in all areas of science, mathematics, and within special education concerns. With talk of opening borders between Mexico and the United States, the future may hold extra perks and pay for teachers who are highly trained in giving advanced lessons to those with English as their second language.
