How to Become a Nurse Midwife

Program requirements will depend on the type of program you choose. Prospective nurse midwives have several educational options available to them, depending on the degree(s) and licensing they currently hold. There are Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree programs with a focus on becoming a nurse midwife, post-master’s certificate programs, doctoral level programs, and bridge programs for registered nurses who have not yet obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Upon completion of a nurse midwife advanced nursing skills program, prospective nurse midwifes will also need to pass a national certification examination.
