Psych/Mental Health CNS

Registered nurses with the desire to further their education and enter the field of psychiatric and mental health nursing should consider graduate-level psychiatric and mental health clinical nurse specialist degree programs, which prepare them to provide direct nursing care and patient services in the mental health field.

Psychiatric and mental health clinical nurse specialists work in a variety of health care and mental health care facilities and assist patients in managing mental health issues, provide advanced treatment to patients with mental health disorders and provide case management in a mental health care setting. Some psychiatric and mental health clinical nurse specialists also work in the fields of research and administration.

To become a psychiatric and mental health clinical nurse specialist (CNS) students generally need to have current licensure as a registered nurse and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
