Diploma schools generally take two to three years to complete and most require that applicants have a high school diploma or the equivalent, such as a GED. Diploma schools prepare prospective nurses to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing and to become Registered Nurses (RNs).
This nursing education option is best suited for prospective nurses who want to work in staff positions in hospitals or in-patient facilities and who understand that furthering their career will likely require obtaining additional education. For some prospective nurses this is an excellent opportunity to enter the field of nursing and have the opportunity to earn a living and gain valuable experience while continuing their education to a higher degree level.
