Oregon Master of Science Programs Overview

Master of Science (MSN)

A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree allows current and prospective nurses to expand their career options and go into research, administration or specialized nursing fields. With an MSN degree, nurses increase their earning potential and open the door to clinical administration opportunities and certain advanced nursing opportunities that are not available to nurses with lower degrees.

Master of Science in Nursing degree programs typically take between 18 and 24 months to complete and offer significant career advancement opportunities in the growing field of nursing. Most applicants for MSN degree programs are currently working as registered nurses and hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree; however, certain MSN programs are also open to students with non-nursing bachelor-level degrees, or for nurses with associate-level degrees who wish to work towards their BSN and MSN degrees at the same time.

Each MSN degree program will have specific requirements, which generally include completion of a BSN degree, an RN license, clinical experience, GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) scores and a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average) for completed college courses.
