Fielding Graduate University's Doctorate of Education (EdD) program is designed to enable teachers, community advocates, and educational administrators to work in their respective communities while simultaneously developing new leadership skills and acquiring a postgraduate education. It allows students to strategically confront the complex realities and challenges facing schools, colleges, and organizations, and examine them from a broad-based systems perspective. The doctoral learning model combines theory with practice in a program that emphasizes academic understanding, research and writing skills and applied activities.
Students learn through a mix of independent study and structured course work; they learn peer-to-peer and collaboratively with faculty; and they utilize a range of learning media, including face-to-face and online courses, seminars, and electronic mail. Fielding offers flexibility for students to create their own learning roadmap and outstanding faculty and advisors who act as mentors throughout each student's academic journey. The EdD curriculum focuses the knowledge and tools to become a leader and change agent in the K-12 learning systems; however, alternative concentration areas are available through which students can specialize in the following areas: Community College Leadership and Change; Leadership of Higher Education Systems, and Media Studies.
