The Master of Arts in Teaching degree is designed for certified mathematics teachers who desire further training in mathematics and mathematics education. The program includes a prescribed minor in education and is offered under the extended coursework plan only (which includes a comprehensive examination). The courses in the program emphasize connections between middle school, high school, and college mathematics content, effective pedagogy, and reflective practice. For regular admission to the M.A.T. program in mathematics you must: have earned a bachelor's degree; have completed 27 semester hours of undergraduate mathematics at the level of calculus and above; and have a 3.0 grade point average in these courses. In addition, you must have a valid teaching certificate. The program's classes are offered online with some on-site delivery in the Greater Phoenix area. There are some in-person requirements for this degree, including oral comprehensive exams that must be taken in Flagstaff.
