Online Teaching License Degrees

A teaching license is also known as teacher certification and required by all states. Foremost for entry into a Teaching License course is that the prospective teacher be a graduate of a four year program in education or a related major, and meets the minimum semester hour requirements for teaching in the state. Holding a teaching license is required for employment in any school. Besides the educational requirements of a bachelor degree there is a teacher training program requirement including an in-classroom requirement, and an examination administered by the state.

Online Education Options for Teaching License Degree

  • Online Certifications in Teaching License is a requirement for holding any teaching position in any public or private school system. This particular program can be taken online however there is a requirement for in the classroom supervised teaching that can be arranged through the local school system in conjunction with your distance learning institution. After all academic requirements and internship requirements have been met a state examination must be taken to become a licensed teacher.

Career Considerations

Holding a bachelor degree in education or kindergarten-12 education is only the first step on the path to becoming a licensed teacher. Many programs will incorporate the licensure process into the four year bachelor degree in education, especially online schools. Online schools will often assist the student in making arrangements for the internship (classroom teaching) required for the program, locally.

Salary and Career Information

  • Employment settings for the licensed and certified teaching profession. In order to be a teacher and add the classroom whether it be private or public school system the teacher is required by state law to be licensed and in addition some states require a masters degree for certain teaching positions.
  • Public schools employ the majority of teaching license graduates. A teaching license is a requirement for almost any teaching position except perhaps an independent tutor.
  • Private Schools also require a teaching license degree in compliance with state laws. A preschool or a daycare teaching position which does not require a certificate nor do they require a four year bachelor degree might be the only exceptions to this. The salaries however are far less attractive for the non-licensed professional.
  • Median salaries for the licensed teacher within the kindergarten through 12 range are around $42,000 per year.
  • Entry level teaching license degree graduate are reported to be between $29,000 and $34,050 per year.
  • Job Growth for the teaching license degree graduate is predicted to be about as fast as average at 12% growth rate through the year 2016. However, if there will be a large number of baby boom teachers retiring within the next 10 years which will actually create more openings than the predicted growth would indicate. Combine a factor with the population growth and the job outlook for the teaching license degree graduate is very good.
